What is it? An orthopaedic appliance system, allowing individualised treatment to be carried out simply and easily. The appliance is based around a prefabricated modular spring, built into a maxillary occlusal splint. Two integral vertical springs make contact with a fixed lingual arch.

What is it for? Correction of Skeletal Class II malocclusion by accelerating the growth of the mandible and in some cases restraining growth of the maxilla. Harmonising facial growth in this way, instead of moving teeth, gives a more balanced profile and leaves the maxillary teeth forward at their optimal position in the face, to provide a generous and easily expressed smile. How does it work? The appliance partly acts as a training device, harnessing the patient's own muscle forces. The vertical springs create an avoidance reflex and a new postural position for the mandible. The mandible is brought forward in a step-wise manner as the growth of the patient responds, approximately 2mm every 6 - 8 weeks. This stimulates the maximum rate of growth of the condyle and the fossa and leads to a new skeletal position of the mandible.
